An Investigation of Language Learning Strategies Used by Female Saudi EFL College Students

Although language learning strategies (LLSs) received considerable amount of attention since 1970s, limited studies have focused on the use LLSs by ESL students especially EFL students. In order for educators to gain insight into approach through LLSs, further research should be conducted about within various contexts. The current study aims primarily investigate used Saudi female college in Riyadh, Arabia, and secondly assess whether any difference exists terms among from different universities university levels. Strategy Inventory Language Learning (SILL) questionnaire Oxford (1990b) was as a instrument collect data it initially designed elicit information employed ESL/EFL this study, an adapted version SILL strategy 145 at three universities. results showed that were general medium high users strategies. most common metacognitive strategy, whereas least affective memory There no significant differences between reflect students’ awareness manage their own refer planning, organizing, monitoring evaluating (Oxford, 1990b). addition, low is likely due fear making mistakes being uncomfortable when using English.
